Every year, the Pennsylvania Integrated Library System (PaILS), the proud home of the SPARK consortium, undergoes a significant software upgrade to keep our libraries running smoothly and efficiently. This year, we’re thrilled to announce that SPARK will be upgrading to Evergreen version 3.13, moving up from version 3.11.
What is Evergreen?
Evergreen is the powerful, open-source integrated library system (ILS) that serves as the backbone of PaILS’ services to public libraries across Pennsylvania. It provides essential tools that help libraries manage everything from cataloging books to serving patrons, ensuring that Pennsylvania’s libraries can offer the best possible services to their communities.
What to Expect with Version 3.13
The upcoming upgrade brings exciting new features and important bug fixes that will enhance both library staff and patron experiences. These improvements include:
- Enhanced User Interface: A more intuitive, user-friendly design that makes navigation simpler for both staff and patrons. This includes an updated reports module interface and a new cataloging MARC record editor.
- New Functionality: Features designed to streamline workflows and improve efficiency in daily operations, including the ability to search unaffiliated libraries who share items.
- Bug Fixes: Critical issues identified in previous versions have been resolved, making the system more stable and reliable.
PaILS and our member libraries have played a key role in championing and funding some of these upgrades. Our commitment to improving library services means we’re always advocating for enhancements that benefit all users of the SPARK system.
